Abhijit Banerjee -Team leader

Considered among the front ranking tabla players from India , Abhijit Banerjee is one of the most sought after creative artists in the realm of Indian classical music. With nearly 20 years of professional experience Abhijit has crafted a unique style and creative approach which has brought him accolades and awards from allover the world for his sensitivity, skill and deep sense of musicality. Apart from his contributions to Indian music he has left his mark in a diverse field of crossover music both as a performer and composer.

Recognizing his talent and natural inclination towards music his father steered him to tabla at the age of four. Abhijit also studied vocal music and violin making a complete musician out of him. Now he is accepted as one of pioneering disciples of the illustrious guru, the late Jnan Prakash Ghosh.

Abhijit has accompanied nearly all the top ranking luminaries of Indian classical music including Pt.Ravi Shankar, late Pt.Nikhil Banerjee, Begum Parweena Sultana, Pt.Jasraj, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, Dr. Balamurali Krishnan to name a few. As a tabla soloist he has also made his mark in numerous performances and recordings in India & abroad.

Abhijit has been holding center stage in all of the major classical music festivals in India . And touring extensively in USA , Canada, U.K. , Europe , Japan , Australia , South Africa , South East Asia and Mexico giving concerts, conducting workshops and attending seminars in the Universities and music schools. His International performances of note include Lincoln Center , Carnegie Hall, Gevant Haus in Germany , Paleis in Brussels , Theatre de la Ville & Radio France in Paris , South Bank, U.K. Abhijit also has had the honor of representing India in the Granada Festival of Music in Spain .

In addition to a highly successful career in Indian Classical music his crossover work includes collaborations with musicians such as Ry Cooder, Larry Corryell and Trilok Gurtu. Abhijit founded his own touring ensemble TARANG performing his original compositions, and released CDs of the same title. He is also member of the Raga Jazz group, Arohi Ensemble.

Abhijit has scored music for Indian television & won the National Award for Documentary Music for the film about Calcutta ‘The Trail', which was screened in the Munich and Amsterdam film festivals.

Abhijit has founded & established Dhwani Academy of Percussion in Los Angeles , New York , Singapore and Calcutta attracting talented students from around the world. The Academy also works towards the promotion of Indian music and has initiated needy blind children in the art of music. In his academic life he is a graduate in English literature and post graduate in Journalism

Somnath Roy  

Is a talented versatile percussionist who as made an in-depth study in both north and south Indian style of percussion. Though his main medium of expression is Ghatam, Somnath is equally apt in many other percussion instruments. In his childhood he started learning under the guidance of Sri Nepal Sarkar. Seeing his ardent passion for music, the well-known Mridangam player Vidwan S. Shekhar accepted him as his disciple. Later Somnath came in contact with one of the doyens of South Indian music Vidwan V. Suresh who was immensely impressed by his intelligence and aesthetic sense accepted him as one of his main disciples. Somnath went through a Gurukul system of rigorous training from his illustrious Guru and mastered the unique style and fingering of Ghatam playing. Somnath's uniqueness is his art of using not only Ghatam but also many other percussion instruments with ease, perfection and aesthetic sense.

Somnath has the honour of sharing the stage with great maestros of Indian Music. Apart from playing regularly in Indian Music festivals all over the country, he has participated in festivals of World music like ETNI MALAGA FEST ( Spain ), India Festival ( Belgium).
 

Snehashish Majumdar

is among those few established musicians in India who has mastered the art of playing Mandolin and has blended it perfectly into the style of Indian Classical Music.

Coming from a musically oriented family, he started his initial training under the guidance of his father Sri Himangshu Manjumdar. Gradually he switched over to his cousin Sri Tejen Majumdar who is a well-known saorde player of the country. He continued his study under Pandit Ajoy Sinha Roy who was a beloved disciple of Baba Allauddin, the founder of Maihar Gharana and Guru of Pandit Ravishankar. Finally he came under the tutelage of the illustrious personality in Indian Classical music Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty.

Snehashish, besides performing in all the major festivals in India , has toured Europe , U.K. , and USA and made a very good name amongst the music lovers. He is the recipient of Surmani and Jadubhatta Awards. Besides playing Indian Classical Music, he is very much involved in the film industry and arranged music for many award-winning films.

 

Goutam Shome

Is a veteran keyboard player in the film industry of Eastern India . He is also a unique arranger and has arranged for many TV serials and film music. He himself is a composer and many of his composed title music are some of the most popular TV shows. He has worked with people like Salil Chowdhury, Satyajit Ray, and Manna Dey to name a few.

 

 

 

 

 

 

B. Rajashekar

Is a Morching player, known for his electrifying idiomatic sounds with astounding versatility of this small instrument.

Rajashekar started giving his morching accompaniment at the tender age has accompanied the Saxophone maestro Vidwan Kadri Gopalnath in many of his concerts since 1990. He has shared stage with Stalwart Musicians of Indian classical music such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Vidwan, Umayalpuram Shivaraman, Dr. Balmurlikrishna,Vidwan Kadaikudimani to name a few. Rajashekar toured extensively all over India and abroad. Notable among his foreign concerts is at Royal Albert Hall, London for BBC-Proms-1994 and participation in 5 th International Jew's harp festival held at Amsterdam in 2006. He toured United Kingdom , Srilanka , Singapore , Malaysia , Bahrain , Qatar , Australia , UAE, Switzerland and France . He represented India at 5 th International Jew's harp festival held at Amsterdam in 2006. Awards and Accolades such as "LAYA KALANIDHI", "LAYAKALA PRATIBHA MANI" from The Percussive Arts Centre, Bangalore, "NADAMRUTA SURABHI" from Sri Vidya Peetam of Kalladaikuruchchi, "MUKHA SHANKU VADYA RATNA" from Chennai. bestowed on him and was also honored by the president of India . He toured US with a percussion fusion group TARANG.
